While there are many joyous things about summer — the fresh mangoes, the iced lattes, the glorious sunsets, the thrill of Christmas break — one thing we could all universally agree on is that trying to find a body of water to cool down in, in a city like Sydney can be a bit of a bloody fiasco.

Getting to the beach in Sydney can be a nightmare — if you're lucky enough to nab a car spot in the Eastern Suburbs, chances are you may struggle to find a nice solo patch of sand on any beach from Bondi to Coogee in the peak of summer.

But never fear; it's not impossible to find some secluded gems, and one couple has stumbled across a gorgeous little secret spot just 50 minutes from the Sydney CBD.

If you've got a car and a sense of adventure, Clatterteeth Canyon in Sydney's Blue Mountains should be on your summer bucket list, with two travellers deeming a swimming spot there as 'Bubblegum Pool' due to the magical colour of the water.

Although the pool is a spectacular sight, it is also a little bit of a scramble to get there, including parts where you may need to swim, so caution is advised if you are going to undertake the trip.

"It’s a long day with plenty of lengthy swims," they caution in their guide. "It’s a truly special place, but you need to have the right conditions and gear before taking it on."

The bushwalk to the canyon is deemed an easy level, with it being a relatively straightforward trek, but is recommended for people who are comfortable with off-track walking as some sections of the path are eroded and not always defined.

An Australian hiking and canyoning website, OzUltimate, recommended to start at the Fire Station at Mt Wilson, before heading west towards Du Faurs Rocks Lookout and 300 metres past it, you'll find a gate marked with an arrow, following the fire trail for almost 2km. From there, hikers will reach the saddle at Mount Wilson, before turning left and following the track down to the creek. (You can read a more detailed description here.)

A creek called October Creek leads into the canyon, with the travellers from Walk My World deeming it a 'scramble'.

"From here you’ll be wading and occasionally swimming through some open canyon and a couple of short narrow slots. In between, there is plenty of dense scrub to get through which slows you down," they wrote.

"You may want a lilo, though carrying a lilo through the debris and over boulders is tedious. I preferred to swim, but I enjoy long swims, if you don’t, you will definitely want some kind of floatation device."

While people flocked to Walk My World's Instagram post to praise the swimming spot, the duo did warn people the track wasn't at all child-friendly and 'quite the mission' to undertake in order to get to the bubblegum blue pool.

"This looks idyllic!" one fan commented, with the original poster confirming it was "just the start" of several idyllic pools in the area that were worth checking out.
