Secret clause in Kyle & Jackie O's $200 million contract as star leaves Australia

The duo’s 10-year deal with ARN includes some pretty amazing perks.

Kyle Sandilands shocked listeners on Monday morning when he announced on-air that his co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson was broadcasting live from London after quietly flying to Europe over the weekend.

Rather than wait until The Kyle & Jackie O Show’s annual winter break later this month to start her holidays, the 49-year-old has been able to flee the Australian winter early and broadcast from the UK thanks to a secret clause in the pair’s $200 million contract with KIIS FM.

Both Kyle and Jackie O insisted during negotiations that they could broadcast the show from “anywhere on the earth” at the drop of a hat, as first reported by last year.

This means that the pair can not only work from anywhere they want, but their employers, Australian Radio Network, must ensure they find suitable studio space wherever they are for them to work from. On Monday morning, Jackie explained she was broadcasting this week from Global Media & Entertainment’s Capital and Heart studios in Central London.

The location clause certainly wasn’t the only demand Kyle and Jackie O had when signing their contract last year, with an insider telling Yahoo Lifestyle that the duo refused to re-sign until their bosses agreed they would be getting a brand new state-of-the-art studio.

They officially moved into their new studio in North Sydney in March and the following month they began broadcasting their show across Melbourne - which was another condition in their monumental deal.

The $200 million contract, which saw the presenters’ salaries increase from $5 million to $10 million until 2034, has been described as the biggest deal in Australian media history.

While Jackie didn’t explain the reason behind her trip on-air, she revealed that she is currently travelling with her best friend and Besties business co-founder Gemma O’Neill.

The pair posted an Instagram Story on Monday telling their followers about their unique “promise” to each other while staying in the UK’s capital city.

“OK so whilst Gemma and I are in London, we have made a promise that on this trip, our goal is to do something different every day that we wouldn’t usually do, create a new experience,” Jackie said.

“We’ve done all the touristy things, so we wanted to think outside the box,” Gemma added.

Gemma then announced that she had organised a trapeze class in Regent’s Park, which Jackie immediately shut down.

“No no no no, I’ve done that, by the way,” she said. “I couldn’t get off. I couldn’t jump, it was horrific. I couldn’t even climb the ladder, I was that scared.”

Eventually, Jackie said she would think about it and keep her followers posted about whether she would participate in the activity.
