Selma Blair gave powerful advice for living through this pandemic from her experiences with MS

Ever since announcing that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018, Selma Blair has been open with fans about her experiences with the autoimmune disease. She has been candid with fans about her health and how MS impacts her day-to-day life, and in a new interview on Miley Cyrus’s “Bright Minded,” she shared her thoughts on facing the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic while battling her own health issues.

On Cyrus’s Instagram Live talk show, Blair explained that remaining in quarantine isn’t a huge change for her.

“I’ve been pretty much in isolation for two years because of my physical issues that make it harder to get out, harder to speak,” Blair said, “and now everyone’s on this same kind of daily trajectory I’m on.”

She understands the very real worries and stresses people are experiencing in these uncertain times. However, she hopes others can “find the real gift” in the extra time at home. As for her? She said she’s enjoying dance parties at midnight with her 8-year-old son, Arthur.

“This is an incredible time for me, ’cause I’m home, and to have my son home and to be able to have people understand…There’s just nothing that gets me mad for long anymore, and it hasn’t for a couple of years,” she said.

Still, Blair understands what it’s like to face uncertainty with her health. Cyrus asked her advice for those “receiving medical news that can immediately feel terrifying,” especially during the coronavirus pandemic.

“This moment is what we have, [even when] we hope for more,” Blair said. She focuses on “how we show our grace and being there for our loved ones,” including “being strong and also being vulnerable—which is a form of strength.”

She added, “Be open but also really take this opportunity to be the best you you can be, to help your days along.”

Blair doesn’t fear the prospect of getting COVID-19, because, as she says, “I just really look in the moment. ‘Cause now, I’m a middle-aged woman with an incurable disease, and it doesn’t even matter…I just don’t worry anymore.” She does what she can to protect those around her but, for her own health, keeps the “negative thoughts” at bay.

Her positive perspective will definitely help those feeling fear in these uncertain times, and we’re so grateful to her for being such a beacon of light every step of the way.
