‘Sh!tShow’ Wine Is A Total 2020 Mood, And You Obviously Need A Bottle On Your Bar Cart
A small Pennsylvania winery makes a red blend wine that is—as the kids say—a total mood. Sh!tshow wine is available for purchase online and pretty much sums up everyone's feelings about the year 2020.
Grovedale Winery operates out of Wyalusing, PA, and while they produce more than two dozen different bottles of wine, it's Sh!tshow that's striking a cord at the moment. The oak-barrel aged blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot was released early in 2020 without any knowledge of what the rest of the year would bring.
According to Food & Wine, the wine's name was initially inspired by more common unfortunate moments than, say, a global pandemic. "It was actually the idea of our winemaker, who had said it as a joke at first," the owner of Grovedale Winery, Jeff Homer, told the outlet.
"When we floated the idea to people, they immediately started laughing. We lift a glass together to celebrate life's good moments, and we thought having a wine for the 'sh!tshow' moments of life would help bring a smile. At the time, we were thinking of situations like your friend goes through a divorce, or when your project at work fails."
Now, the wine's tagline is "A fine wine for the times," which is on point for our current situation. The wine can be purchased online, but is only available to United States resident at the time. There are also plans to expand availability of the wine, as well as add a charitable component to Sh!tshow's sales.
"We're actively working on a non-profit collaboration that will see a portion of all proceeds from Sh!tshow Wine going towards increasing mental health awareness and helping people access assistance," Homer told Food & Wine. "Ultimately, we want to give people a way to laugh at the different sh!tshows we all face but also to make sure that people know they truly are not alone."
