'Shot of 2019 already': Absurd winner stuns tennis world

Australian Open qualifying has witnessed one of the most incredible winners in recent memory.

British player Dan Evans has produced an absurd behind-the-back winner during qualifying for the first grand slam of the year.

Evans was playing Jurij Rodionov recently when he was completed wrong-footed during a rally.

Rodionov hit a ball behind Evans and would have thought he’d won the point.

But Evans somehow managed to produce a spinning behind-the-back shot that went straight back past Rodionov for a winner.

It left many calling it the best shot of 2019 already.

Evans went on to win 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, taking a step closer to qualifying for the Open.

Joining him is Aussie hope Thanasi Kokkinakis, who survived a wobble against second-round opponent Sebastian Ofner.

He’ll be joined by two emerging Australian women, Astra Sharma and Naiktha Bains, in third round qualifying action on Friday after the pair moved to the verge of their maiden main draw entries at Melbourne Park.

Kokkinakis defeated the Austrian world No.180, 6-4 7-6 (7-4), losing composure in the second set before rallying in the tiebreak.

He will face Canadian Peter Polansky for a place in the main draw.
