Within minutes of their final show on BBC Five Live, Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode have announced a new movie review show called Kermode & Mayo's Take.

The broadcasting duo ended their popular film review show at the BBC today after 21 years on air, but teased their listeners that there was more to come from them.

Within moments of their last BBC broadcast, which ended with an emotional greatest hits compilation, they announced a new show — seemingly backed by Sony Music Entertainment — that would take the form of two new weekly podcasts: Take One and Take Two.

Talking on a teaser for the new show, Kermode said: "They thought we were going away but we're back. Biggerer, betterer, largerer, and more is morer."

They also revealed that the show would expand beyond the scope of their BBC show, which only covered movies, saying the podcast would review: "Big films, small films, weird films, new films, and... television, big television, proper television, finally."

Take Two seems to be an Apple Podcasts exclusive show, with subscribers on that platform getting Take One ad-free too.

The duo announced their exit from the BBC early March, announcing the move with Mayo saying: "We are way too expensive, and there are much better things for the BBC to be spending their money on.

"April the 1st will be our last show... on Five Live."

The BBC has yet to announce a replacement for the show.

The duo wrote in a statement online: “After 21 years (and as many drummers) the Flagship Film Show @wittertainment will make its final 5Live voyage on April 1st.

“But like Tap, we’ll be back … Stay tuned. Long live Wittertainment.”

Another statement posted to their show’s Twitter page said the decision to step away from the programme was their own.

They said: “21 years is a long time to be clogging up the schedules. We – and no one else – have decided to step away… To withdraw… spread our wings… to exit, pursued by a bear.”
