South Africa to Set Up Panel to Advise on National Dialogue
(Bloomberg) -- South Africa’s president said he will soon set up a panel that will provide advice on a national dialogue that will be held next year on the country’s future development path.

A national dialogue steering committee will also be appointed to coordinate the process, Cyril Ramaphosa said in a speech Monday. “All the necessary structures and processes of the national dialogue will be in place early in the new year so that the preparations can commence in earnest.”
The talks first agreed to by a coalition government formed after the African National Congress lost its parliamentary majority in May elections will address low growth, unemployment, poverty, poor governance, slow land reform, graft gender-based violence and racism, Ramaphosa said.
South Africa’s economic growth has averaged less than 1% in the past decade contributing to an unemployment rate of 32.1% and inequality. According to World Bank data, South Africa is the most unequal nation in the world.
The talks that will include representatives from government, business, labor and civil society are “expected to develop a shared vision of what it means to be a South African,” Ramaphosa said.
