South Hams introduces new bin collection service

South Hams new recycling lorry
The new recycling scheme will come into effect from Monday 20 November

A new recycling and food waste collection service is set to come in for South Hams residents.

New recycling boxes and sacks were sent to 8,000 homes in September to allow people to recycle more efficiently.

South Hams District Council said everyone would now be on the same service, using kerbside boxes, a reusable sack and food waste caddy to be collected each week.

It said residents had been sent a letter explaining the upcoming changes, which would come into effect from Monday 20 November.

Cllr Julian Brazil said the new service was an "opportunity for us to get it right".

He said: "It is going to cost slightly more but I think the service will be better - the efficiencies that we can drive out and the monies that we can make from the recycling and everything like that, hopefully that'll balance it to a certain extent."
