The government reached an agreement with unions to increase the minimum monthly salary to €1,184 ($1,235), Diaz said in a post on social media platform Bluesky. The initiative adds €50 a month to the minimum wage established last year.

The announcement is an easy win for Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and his cabinet, amid weak parliamentary support that has made it difficult to pass any laws. Upping minimum pay has been one of the government’s main policies since Sanchez first came to power in 2018.

The raise will take total increases since Sanchez became Prime Minister to over 60%.
