Quebec police searching for missing woman from Hemmingford near U.S. border
Provincial police are continuing efforts to locate a missing 29-year-old woman from Hemmingford, Que.
Last Saturday, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) issued a call for the public's help in finding Kelsey Watt.
Watt was last seen that day around 12:30 p.m. on Covey Hill Road in Hemmingford, which is located in southern Quebec minutes away from the U.S. border.
She stands five feet six inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. Her eyes are green, and she has red hair.
Watt is believed to be travelling on foot. She was wearing a black coat when she was last seen.
On Sunday, the SQ announced it set up a command post. On Tuesday, the police service said the command post would remain in place for an indeterminate period.
Watt's mother Deborah Beattie said Tuesday that within an hour of her calling for help, about 300 volunteers came to look for her daughter.
"It's something that's unheard of," Beattie said. "We were moved by all the support we received."
Relatives of Watt said in a media statement published earlier on Tuesday that the family is "grateful beyond expression for the outpouring of generosity from our community" since her disappearance.
"The firefighters, volunteers, SQ, GRC [RCMP], police, people who brought food, vigil organizers. Thank you," they wrote.
Anyone who sees Watt or has information on her whereabouts is asked to call 911 or contact the SQ at 1-800-659-4264.
