‘Still a mystery’: Model dies after being thrown from bus window

A Russian model who was travelling on a bus to visit her boyfriend to say goodbye before returning to her home country has died after she was thrown out of a window when the bus crashed into a truck.

Tatiana Kulikova, 27, spent a year in Argentina working as a model, but decided to go back to Russia because she was feeling homesick.

However the model was tragically killed before she was due to return home when the bus crashed in the town of Carmen de Areco in the Argentinian province of Buenos Aires earlier this month.

Police investigators say they are baffled as to why the accident happened, as the bus was travelling in optimal conditions when it hit a Mercedes-Benz lorry that was transporting commercial drinks.

"The reason for the impact is still a mystery," Alberto Salazar, the head of the Carmen de Areco Fire Station, told local media.

"The route is in optimal conditions, because it is a new road and it has a double lane going in either direction. That day there was neither fog nor rain, so the tarmac was dry."

A blood test showed the driver of the bus was not under the influence of alcohol. However he has been charged with "culpable homicide" and the investigation is ongoing.

In the accident, Ms Kulikova was thrown out of the bus window and passed away at the scene while 12 other people on board the vehicle were also injured but survived.

Ms Kulikova moved from Russia to Argentina in 2021 for work. After spending close to a year in the South American country, she had purchased a flight home on January 25.

At the time of the crash, she was headed to the city of Venado Tuerto, where her boyfriend Francisco Palma lived.

"I'm not in a position to talk to anyone. First I need to solve several problems to try to put her at peace. I am also the only person she had here and I am alone with this," Francisco told local media.

The family was reportedly preparing procedures in order to bring her body back to Russia.
