Strictly's Sarah Hadland has said her target for this weekend's routine is to “stop being sick”.

The actor and her pro partner Vito Coppola are working on a Viennese Waltz for Movie Week. It will be set to Potter song Hedwig’s Theme, with Hadland playing Professor McGonagall, the character played by the late Dame Maggie Smith.

However, the complicated dance involves a lot of spins and during an interview on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two, Hadland confessed that the twirling hasn't left her feeling great.

Host Janetta Manrara asked Coppola what he wanted Hadland to do for the Viennese Waltz, and Hadland piped up: "Stop being sick."

“Because it makes you feel sick doesn’t it, the spinning,” she went on.

Italian dancer Coppola agreed that they have “a lot of spins”, adding: “The other day I was trying to massage your belly when you didn’t feel (well).”

“What I do every week, is I take all the feedback and the comments that the judges give to the other couples and I try to apply it to our next dance,” he said.

"Ah so you pay attention to the other Viennese Waltz comments?" asked Manrara. "Yes!" the dancer replied. "So they were complimenting Wynne (Evans) because he was precise and clean... they want closed feet, they want a cross..."

Interrupting, Manrara said: "I love you but we have a live show to do!"

Coppola also told how emotional it has been working on a Harry Potter routine after the death of Dame Maggie Smith. The actor died in hospital on 27 September at the age of 89, and Coppola said he kept getting emotional in rehearsals.

Hadland said she was a fan of the wizarding films and that they included the “cream of British acting”. “I am a big fan,” Coppola added. “It was difficult for me to concentrate and choreograph this week’s dance because every time I was listening to the song I was just getting emotional.

“I even took a picture of myself getting emotional and sent it to my family because we have our Harry Potter day every time I go to Italy, from the first to the last, we watch.”

Turning to Hadland he referenced one of McGonagall’s tricks as he said: “The only thing we can’t do in our choreography, you cannot jump and become a cat!”

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday.
