Sunrise host David Koch unleashes over border rules in live rant: 'It's too hard'

Sunrise host David Koch has unleashed in a furious rant during the program, calling out the confusing border rules as travel plans are again thrown into chaos amidst fears over the new Omicron Covid variant.

Kochie revealed he's had to cancel his own plans to reunite with some of his family, after Western Australia made a snap move over the weekend to re-enforce home quarantine for fully-vaccinated travellers from South Australia.

"We booked a house in Adelaide for the week after next to meet up with the WA part of the family," he told co-host Natalie Barr.

"The order changes last week and we have to cancel it... so then we're thinking 'Oh, can we see them in Queensland?'"

"And you just think to yourself 'it's too hard' - you can't do anything!"

States have taken extra precautions to protect their residents over the past week, with travel restrictions tightening and quarantine rules being reintroduced across the country, with a fifth case discovered in NSW today.

Kochie's outburst comes after the Morrison government announced on Monday night it would also delay the reopening of the Australian border to skilled workers, international students and other visa holders.

Omicron, which the World Health Organisation said on Monday (local time) poses a “very high” global risk, prompted Australia to close its borders on Saturday to travellers from South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Seychelles, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini and Malawi.

While speaking to NSW Deputy Premier Paul Toole, Kochie continued to call out the confusing rules between states, and for those looking to travel overseas.

"What about people flying overseas for holidays - who want to go to Fiji tomorrow? Can they still go there tomorrow?" he asked the Deputy Premier.

"We can't react like this every time there is a new strain.

"It scares the hell out of people because those who have a Christmas holiday in Fiji are now going 'Oh, no, don't tell me the rug will be pulled out from under me again'."
