"God, we need your help."

Dean and Sam Winchester (Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) have gone through a lot together, but times in season 13 look rougher yet.

The new Supernatural trailer sees the older Winchester brother going as far as begging for help from God, as the montage shows a new, white-suited, and bearded enemy (maybe the new King of Hell?) causing mayhem.

Monsters, people getting strangled by unseen forces, an extremely brief glimpse at Lucifer's son Jack (played by newly-promoted series regular Alexander Calvert), fight scenes, and of course the Impala – the promo gives fans a good idea on what to expect for the fresh run of episodes.

The new season will also bring back the post-apocalyptic alternate reality first seen in the season 12 finale.

Supernatural is bringing back a few old and long-gone characters for season 13, in the form of alternate versions who have different fates in this new world.

Some characters have even been recast and are played by different actors.

Supernatural recently gave a first look at the return of archangel villain Michael, last seen trapped in Lucifer's Cage back in season five.

Now in a vessel played by Christian Keyes, he has been described as a "victor" and a "Genghis Khan" in the alternate reality. Could he be season 13's ultimate Big Bad?

Supernatural returns to The CW on Thursday, October 12. E4 airs the show in the UK.
