If you're not a meat-eater, it's already pretty easy to find something on the Taco Bell menu that satisfies your hunger while being in line with your diet. Now, the chain is looking to expand on their plant-based items by introducing plant-based proteins by next year.

There are already a bunch of vegetarian options on Taco Bell's menu, all of which are marked with a little green "V." Just last fall, they came out with three all new vegetarian menu items including the black bean quesarito, seven-layer burrito wrap, and the black bean crunch wrap supreme. All of these items are black bean-based, though, and president of North American operations Julie Felss Masino told CNBC in June that introducing plant-based meat was not on Taco Bell's radar quite yet.

“We’ve looked. We’ve met with Beyond, we’ve met with Impossible—our head of innovation knows everybody, and they all know her,” she told the outlet: “But I think what we’re proud of is that we’ve been doing vegetarian for 57 years.”

That will all soon change, as a report by Bloomberg confirms Taco Bell is looking into exploring plant-based meat options. Taco Bell's Chief Executive Officer Mark King said that after consideration the brand realizes the importance of plant-based meat. "We definitely see that plant-based protein has a place on the menu," he said, but explained that Taco Bell hasn't decided which plant-based proteins will be used.

Fast food chains and quick service restaurants are using Beyond Meat, Impossible Burgers, and places like Chipotle use their own formula of non-meat protein. Only time will tell what sort of options come to Taco Bell's menu, although it's been rumored that the chain is working on protein made from oats. In the meantime, it's good to know that if you want something vegetarian that's more than just black beans, Taco Bell will have you covered.
