Taylor Swift Just Wore the Ageless Fall Staple Martha Stewart Loves “So Much”

They’re making the denim mini this season’s must-have.
When Martha Stewart wore a mini denim dress towards the end of August, I had a feeling the style she loves “so much” was going to be big for two reasons. One is that, as Stewart explained, the style is “chic” and “so comfortable.” It takes that everyday fabric many of us wear daily and elevates it with a shortened silhouette that’s perfect transitioning into fall.
But secondly: Less-traditional denim is really in right now. I mean, just look at how many celebrities are wearing floor-length skirts and overalls. And last night, Taylor Swift proved my assumption about denim dresses right when she was spotted post-VMA’s in the tiniest one.
The singer-songwriter, who earned nine awards Tuesday night, celebrated them by changing out of her gothic, floor-length gown and into a micro dress. While Stewart’s sack iteration was a bit more casual, Swift’s sleeveless version featured a corset top, pleated skirt, and patchwork elements that resulted in a truly show-stopping look. It proved to me that a denim mini dress works for pretty much every occasion. You dress it up with heels, keep it casual with sneakers, and — when temperatures begin to drop — pair it with your favorite blazer and tights.
If Stewart and Swift’s looks also have you convinced that a denim dress is fall’s must-have piece, I found nine options you can grab today.

Levi’s Alyssa jumper is moving from my wishlist to my cart while it’s on sale for $40 at Amazon. This denim dress is just as perfect for this transitional period we’re in (it’s still hot, wear it alone!) as it is fall thanks to the loose silhouette that allows you to layer underneath without it looking bulky. “It will be perfect in the cooler seasons with a long-sleeve tee or mock-turtleneck,” wrote one customer. And another shopper, who was impressed by the quality of the denim, said that this dress “looks great on.”

I also don’t think I could be more obsessed with Reformation’s Cecil dress if I tried. The babydoll dress features a low, straight-across neckline and deep pleats that add a bit more structure and sophistication to the otherwise cutesy style. Given the current state of our weather, I’d happily wear this as is with a pair of heeled sandals, but as we move into fall I love the idea of styling it with a blazer, chunky loafers, and tube socks.

Rails’ denim dress combines elements of Swift’s and Stewart’s while also bringing something new to the mix. Like Stewarts, this features a raw hem that provides a lived-in look and, similar to Swift’s, it’s sleeveless, mini, and — with the right pair of shoes and bag — totally ready for a night out. But the asymmetrical button-front is really what makes this dress a must-have and why many shoppers have fallen in love with it. “[It’s] such a pretty, unique dress,” wrote one person who raved that they “love the quality, style,” and how “it’s flattering on.” According to another person, it “fits like a glove.”
