"I might die tonight".

These desperate words were written by a 16-year old girl living in the centre of the Gaza conflict.

Farah Baker has been using Twitter to document her life since 2012, but yesterday she amassed thousands of followers by live tweeting a missile attack near her home.

Baker wrote on her feed that she'd already lived through three wars, but that the current one was by far the worst.

The concerning tweets bought to life a conflict that for many of us, is too far away to comprehend.

The teenager's plea for peace on her feed only highlights the thousands of innocent civilians on both sides embroiled in a conflict because they happen to live there.

Farah, who has since updated her feed to let her followers know she's "still alive", has received messages of support from around the world, with many urging her to stay safe.

The teen isn't the first to ask for peace via social media. Recently, a hashtag promoting peace between Israel and Palestine went viral on Twitter. Two weeks into the escalating conflict, ordinary citizens joined an international social media campaign against the violence.

So far dozens of photos of people from both sides of the conflict have been posted with #JewsandArabsRefuseToBeEnemies.
