Teenager's 'spooky' 100-year-old find under broken tile in home
A mum and her teenage son have discovered a secret letter, thought to be about 100 years old, hidden under a broken tile.
The letter was written by a man called Ronald with a surname which looks like Habgood or Halgood, to his married lover asking her to keep their relationship secret.
He also asks her to meet him every day at midnight at the nearby tram stop.
The letter had been hidden for decades but was uncovered this week by Dawn Cornes, 48, and son Loukas, 14, from Preston, UK.
"My son was cleaning his room, when the 55 inch TV fell from his dresser and smashed some of the hearth tiles," Dawn told Jam Press.
"As we were cleaning up, we decided to take the tiles up. My son said 'wouldn't it be funny if we found something hidden, like the deeds to the house' and then proceeded to find the letter.
"It was all very spooky."
Dawn posted the letter on a Facebook group and other members helped her decipher the text.
They believe the letter says: "My own darling, my own my own will you try every morning to come and see me.

"But please don't tell anyone because it must be a secret for just your ears and mine because if anyone got to know you meet me and you a married woman there would be trouble so remember darling.
"I love you so much. Don't tell and meet me every day if you can at midnight at Fulwood tram corner.
"Hoping to see you darling, Your own boy, Ronald."
Dawn and Loukas were delighted to have found something with a story behind it.
"We thought it was a very sweet love letter, and were excited to find it," the mum said.
Facebook group tries to track down letter author
Although there is no date on the letter, Dawn was told the house was built in 1917 but having only moved in in May this year, she doesn't know much about any previous residents.
Others in the Facebook group suggested that judging by the writing and paper size, it could be from around the 1920s.
The letter also mentioned Fulwood tram corner and trams have not run in the city for over 80 years.
Some members of the group tried to use online archives to track Ronald down but didn't quite find a perfect match.
The post has over 3,000 likes with many expressing how pleased they were that Dawn shared the find.
One person wrote: "What a wonderful piece of history your house was hiding."
"I think this is my favorite post ever on here! What a sweet discovery!!!" another added.
A third said: "Frame it!!! What a treasured keepsake."
"Makes me want to know what became of them," someone else wrote.
A fifth added: "Ohh a scandal Ronald in love with a married woman. Amazing letter nonetheless!!"
Dawn plans to keep the letter as a memento and frame it for the wall.
