Tennis world goes nuts over Serena Williams' new outfit

Serena Williams has sent the tennis world into a frenzy with her latest outfit at the Australian Open.

It seems Serena’s outfits are as much of a talking point as her matches these days.

The tennis legend debuts a new outfit for every grand slam, and her opener at the Australian Open on Tuesday was no exception.

Walking out onto Rod Laver Arena for her match against Tatjana Maria, Serena kept the world guessing by wearing a long black coat to warm up in.

And it was almost theatrical as she stripped off after she was ready to go, revealing a striking green jumpsuit-type number underneath.

Fans inside Rod Laver Arena certainly noticed, roaring with delight at the reveal.

Needless to say, fans went nuts over the bold choice of outfit, as well as the fishnet stockings she was wearing.

Serena famously wore a black tutu at the 2018 US Open, mixing in a mauve version as well.

She also wore a black catsuit at the French Open, which sparked controversy when the tournament boss criticised the outfit.

Serena’s stunning start to Aus Open campaign

Williams has made a ruthless start to her quest for a historic 24th grand-slam crown, storming into the second round for the loss of just two games.

Returning to Rod Laver Arena for the first time since beating older sister Venus while pregnant in the 2017 final, Williams crushed good friend and neighbour Tatjana Maria 6-0 6-2 in 49 minutes.

“Our daughters play together,” Williams said after showing little sentiment for her fellow tennis mum.

“I wish we could have played each other later in the tournament.

“The last time I was here, I was actually pregnant and playing at the same time, which is insane. It was literally the best win of my career.

“So it’s kind of weird walking back on court by myself this time.”

Williams will resume on Thursday against Chinese wildcard Peng Shuai or Canadian Eugenie Bouchard as she continues her chase for an eighth Open crown.

This would draw the American level with Margaret Court with 24 major singles titles.
