Terrifying moment journalist's husband is shot dead on honeymoon

A man has been gunned down on a beach in front of his horrified wife as the couple enjoyed their honeymoon in Colombia.

Just hours before Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci was shot and killed in Baru, his new bride, journalist Claudia Aguilera seemingly announced her pregnancy on Instagram.

While on the beach, the couple was approached by two men, who arrived on the island in either a small boat or a jet ski, Ms Aguilera reportedly told the El Tiempo newspaper.

Ms Aguilera said one of the two men then shot Mr Pecci without saying a word, the BBC reports.

One bullet hit him in the face, and another in the back.

Colombian police are investigating the murder, with the help of authorities from the US and Paraguay.

It is not clear what the motive for the shooting was. Ms Aguilera said her husband had not received any threats, AFP reported.

Mr Pecci worked as a prosecutor against organised crime, the BBC reports. A colleague of his said the killing was typical for the mafia.

Paraguay's president Mario Abdo condemned the "cowardly" murder of Mr Pecci on Twitter.

"We condemn this tragic event in the strongest terms and redouble our commitment to fight against organised crime," he said.

"Our sincere condolences to their families."

Wife's heartbreaking Instagram posts

While honeymooning in Colombia, Ms Aguilera shared several pictures of herself and her new husband to Instagram.

One of her most recent pictures was of the two of them watching the sunset in Baru.

"The last sunset in Baru, but we'll have millions more together," she wrote in the caption.

The last picture she shared seemingly announced she was pregnant, with the caption suggesting the best wedding gift was life.

In the foreground of the photo was a sandcastle with a pair of baby shoes, while she and Mr Pecci embraced in the background.
