That How I Met Your Mother spin-off? Well, it may be one step closer to actually happening, as a new writer has been bagged.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alison Bennett – whose previous writing credits include FX series You're The Worst and Hulu animated comedy The Awesomes – will pen the script for How I Met Your Father.
This marks the third time Fox has tried to launch the gender-reversing spin-off since the series ended in 2014. Here's hoping there's not another failure to launch.
A third attempt at a sequel was confirmed by Fox CEO Dana Walden earlier this week, when she revealed the studio will once again try to revamp the sitcom after two previous failed attempts by bringing on "different writers".
The first attempt, which starred Greta Gerwig as the show's protagonist and Meg Ryan as that all-important voiceover, went as far as filming a pilot before it was unexpectedly scrapped by CBS.
As for the second? Well, everything seemed promising, until co-showrunners on This Is Us Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker shelved the project due to their busy schedules.
However, while the third run may well be 'the one' that makes it to air, don't count on Cobie Smulders reprising her role as Robin Scherbatsky/Sparkles, as she recently told Digital Spy she probably won't be involved with a spin-off.
"I don't know much about it," she told Digital Spy. "It's so funny, over the holidays I was hanging out with [creators] Carter and Craig, and they didn't seem to know much about it either.
"I don't know what the intention is with it, but it makes me happy that people still want to hear that story.
"I don't have anything to do with it – I don't think anyone on our cast does. I remember when they tried to do the other spin-off, there was no conversation about any of us participating. I think it'll be its own thing, but the way it is shot will be quite similar."
