Three men arrested after bomb scare at Glasgow bus station released without charge

Three men who were arrested after a bomb squad was called to Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow have been released without charge.

Police Scotland locked down the bus terminal following the discovery of a "suspicious item" on Wednesday afternoon.

The incident led to the evacuation of nearby Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and the closure of the city's subway.

Services at Queen Street railway station were also affected.

A controlled explosion was carried out by an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) team but police said "nothing suspicious was found".

Three men were arrested in connection with possession of offensive weapons but have since been released without charge.

In an update on Thursday, Superintendent Derrick Johnston said: "The initial report was treated as a credible threat and, as a precautionary measure and in accordance with procedures, the surrounding area was closed to the public and a cordon put in place.

"The Royal Navy EOD team carried out a controlled explosion after an assessment was made of the impact to nearby gas mains and local train lines."
