Tiger Woods' incredible gesture for Jarrod Lyle's family

Tiger Woods has joined the list of professional golfers who’ve opened their hearts and wallets to the family of Jarrod Lyle after the Aussie golfer lost his battle with cancer.

Lyle died on Wednesday night at the age of just 36 after battling acute myeloid leukemia for a third time.

A loveable and popular member of the world of golf, Lyle’s tragic passing has touched his former peers from all over the world.

The much-loved Aussie made the decision last week to begin palliative care, sparking a flood of support for him and his family.

First, it was in the form yellow ribbons pinned on the hats of golfers and caddies at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Then, Justin Thomas – who won the 2018 Invitational in Ohio – asked fellow golfers to donate to a GoFundMe page that would support Lyle’s two daughters.

The page titled ‘Jarrod Lyle’s Girls’ has raised more than $90,000 since it was set up earlier in the week.

Woods and his charity foundation have pledged $10,000 to the Lyle family cause, with Jon Rahm contributing a further $5,000.

However, one of the most generous donations of all has come from American young gun Bryson DeChambeau.

DeChambeau outdrove his closest competitors, Peter Uihlein and Tony Finau, to claim the US PGA Championship Long Drive title.

The winning drive of 331 yards gave DeChambeau the choice of where the $25,000 charitable winnings would go.

The decision was an easy one for the 24-year-old.

“The story, it’s so sad and his kids are suffering, obviously, from it — his whole family is — and I just thought it would be the right thing to do,” DeChambeau said prior to Lyle’s death.

The PGA Championship — golf’s fourth and final major of the year — begins at the Bellerive Golf Course on Thursday night.

It’s set to be played under a sombre cloud as thoughts and prayers turn to Lyle’s family and loved ones at such a devastating time.
