Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards apologizes after homophobic comments in Instagram video
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards apologized on Twitter on Sunday after he posted a video to Instagram where he was heard making homophobic comments.
Edwards sent a video to his Instagram story that was presumably from Saturday night. Edwards started zooming in on a group of people standing on a sidewalk and made comments about what he assumed their sexual orientation was based on how they were dressed.
After using the word “queer” to describe them, Edwards was heard saying, “Look what the world done came to, bruh,” while a woman laughed in the background.
Edwards has since deleted that NSFW video, which was making the rounds on Twitter.

“What I said was immature, hurtful and disrespectful, and I’m incredibly sorry,” Edwards tweeted on Sunday afternoon. “It’s unacceptable for me or anyone to use that language in such a hurtful way, there’s no excuse for it, at all. I was raised better than that!”
It’s unclear if Edwards will face discipline from the league for his comments, though NBA has fined players for homophobic comments in the past.
“We are disappointed in the language and actions Anthony Edwards displayed on social media,” the Timberwolves said in a statement on Monday afternoon. “The Timberwolves are committed to being an inclusive and welcoming organization for all and apologize for the offense this has caused for so many.”
Edwards, 21, averaged a career-high 21.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season, his second with the Timberwolves. The former No. 1 overall pick is in the second year of a four-year, $44 million deal.
