Fox News reports that Tina, who became a Swiss citizen over a decade ago, died in her home in Küsnacht, Switzerland following a private health battle.
While the exact cause of death has not been revealed, she had experienced a number of health problems in recent years.
She was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and suffered from kidney failure in the same year due to high blood pressure. Her second husband Erwin Bach donated a kidney for her transplant surgery in 2017.
Born Anna Mae Bullock in 1939, the singer rose to fame alongside her first husband Ike Turner in the 1960s and is best known for her hits Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits, River Deep, Mountain High and The Best.
She received 12 Grammy Awards throughout her career, including a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and became the oldest female solo artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 with her song What’s Love Got To Do With It in 1984.
Tina also starred in the 1985 film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome alongside Mel Gibson, was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2021, and had her life made into a jukebox musical, Tina: The Tina Turner Musical - which premiered in Sydney just last week.
She is survived by her second husband Erwin Bach, who she married in 2013, and her two children Ike Turner Jr and Michael Turner. Her sons Raymond and Ronnie passed away in 2018 and 2022, respectively.
