Today show segment hijacked by bugs

It's only been a few days since Lisa Wilkinson departed the Today show, and things are already changing on the Channel Nine show.

Eyebrows were raised on Thursday morning when an interview with celebrity chef Matt Moran took an unexpected turn, as a series of bugs began crawling across the screen.

Between the scurrying insects and host Karl Stefanovic's stunned expression, there was plenty to keep viewers rather amused.

"Do you know ... it looks like you have prawns on you," Karl eventually told the celeb chef, about a minute into the interview.

While Matt insisted that the insects were on the outside camera and tried to steer the interview back on track, Karl was just too amused by the distraction.

“They are flying straight through your ears ... this is like a nature documentary, it’s fascinating,” Karl said.

Presenter Deborah Knight, who has stepped in to the co-hosting role this week after Lisa Wilkinson's departure, added: "So Matty, you know - gee, look at those two!

"I think they’re actually mating."
