Webster gets shot at NBA

Corey Webster is getting an opportunity to crack the NBA.

The Breakers announced this morning that the Tall Blacks shooting guard is heading to the United States to work-out for the New Orlans Pelicans and try to secure a training camp invitation for the upcoming season.

"This sprung up pretty quick, the coaching staff at New Orleans have invited me to do some workouts for a couple of days or maybe a week,' Webster said.

"This is a chance to impress in that time and chase an invite to join the Pelicans training camp in October.

"My agent has been communicating with them (New Orleans) and says it is based on my form over the past couple of months since coming back from Europe, in particular up against NBA caliber players such as Patty Mills and Matthew Dellavedova.

"I guess they were watching and I have done enough for this invite, I have to work hard and show them I am worthy of the next step and get an invite to stay for longer."

Webster was New Zealand's leading scorer during the recent Olympic qualifying series against Australia and stood out at last year's world cup in Spain.

Australian website Downtownball is reporting several NBA teams with perimeter shooting needs have expressed an interest in Webster and the New Zealand Herald believes the New Orleans Pelicans are the team to have invited him to work-out.

Corey Webster signed a three-year contract extension with the Breakers during the off-season, but has an NBA out-clause.
