Fifteen arrested as Wellington celebrates Bledisloe win
The party in Wellington after the All Blacks won the Bledisloe Cup in style kept police busy with one arrest at Westpac Stadium and 14 downtown.
But they had extra staff on and were able to say most people enjoyed a night celebrating in the capital.
The 13th straight defence of the trans-Tasman silverware was among the most straightforward for New Zealand, whose 29-9 win followed a 42-8 romp in Sydney.
A feisty but limited Wallabies side were brushed aside four tries to nil on Saturday as the All Blacks ensured the Bledisloe Cup would stay where it had resided since 2003.
One arrest was made at the stadium for disorder, 19 people were evicted for intoxication and four were refused entry, says Inspector Neil Banks, the operation commander.
"It was a busy night in Wellington, not just at the Westpac Stadium but also at bars showing the game and following the match and into the early hours of the morning," he says.
A further 14 arrests were made for booze-related offending including disorderly behaviour and fighting in and around the Courtenay Place area and CBD.
"We appreciate those who were considerate and responsible and contributed to what was a fun and enjoyable night for many," said Insp Banks.
There was also plenty of chat on social media about the victory.
"What an honour too, receiving the Bledisloe Cup from the Governor General ... Aotearoa respect for a humble man" one person commented on the All Blacks Facebook page.
"Who will stop the All Blacks?" another said.
The foreign contributions included: "Once again, it's All Blacked out time. Total respect to the Abs from Canada."
