Kiwi arrested at Sydney airport for allegedly pulling knife on police

A New Zealander being booted out of Australia has been arrested after a stand-off with police at Sydney airport.

The man's visa had been cancelled on character grounds and he was in the custody of immigration authorities when an incident broke out on Wednesday morning.

NSW Police were called to an airport terminal about 10.50am after the man threatened self harm.

The man allegedly threatened airport staff with a blade during a 40 minute standoff.

The man was taken to hospital for assessment.

It is believed the man was a New Zealander who had his passport cancelled on character ground.

Nobody was injured.
