Diversions in place after serious crash near Nelson
A number of people have suffered life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash near Nelson.
The crash happened on the Coastal Highway, State Highway 60, near the Redwood Valley, between Nelson and Motueka late on Monday morning.
It was too early to confirm if anyone had been killed, a spokeswoman said.
"It's understood that some passengers have critical injuries," police said in a statement.

Diversions are in place on SH60 (Coastal Highway) at Redwood Road and Gardner Valley Road.
Traffic travelling between Richmond and Motueka is encouraged to take the Inland Highway.
Police say the road will be closed until at least 5pm tonight as the Serious Crash Unit investigate the scene.
