A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder after his father was found dead at a Toronto home, police say.

Officers responded to a call for a well-being check at an address in the area of Glencairn Avenue and Avenue Road in Lawrence Park South on Saturday, the Toronto Police Service said in a news release Wednesday.

They found an 82-year-old man dead inside.

"The circumstances in which the victim was found were deemed to be suspicious," the release said. "The victim's son was located and arrested."

Police say the victim's son was initially charged with interfering with a dead body. However, that charge is being upgraded to first-degree murder.

Anyone with information about the accused's whereabouts in the weeks leading up to Oct. 5 is asked to contact police.
