Trump nominates Amy Coney Barrett to Supreme Court

"Amy is more than a stellar scholar and judge. She's also a profoundly devoted mother," Trump told those attending the Rose Garden announcement, adding Barrett will make history (if confirmed) as the first mother of school-aged children ever to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

48-year-old Barrett, who served as a clerk for Justice Antonin Scalia, said that if confirmed by the Senate, she "would not assume that role for the sake of those in my own circle, and certainly not for my own sake," but would seek to

apply the law as written and set aside any policy views she might hold.
