Is the US government only giving $750 in aid to victims of Hurricane Helene? Nope, that’s fake news
Is it true that the only assistance that the United States government is planning to give to people whose homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Helene are $750 loans? Well, that’s what some pro-Trump social media users have been claiming online. They say that the US government is short on money after spending hundreds of millions of dollars on aid for migrants. It turns out, though, that the $750 isn’t a loan – victims can keep it. And it’s just an emergency payment; they will be able to access more down the line.
Is it true that the United States government is giving a shockingly small amount of aid to victims of deadly Hurricane Helene, which ravaged the southeastern parts of the US and killed at least 215 people, mostly in North Carolina and Georgia? According to one pro-Trump social media user, Vice President Kamala Harris said that the government would only be giving $750 to victims.
“FEMA doesn’t have enough money to make it through hurricane season yet spent $640 [million USD] on illegal aliens,” one social media user railed in a post that has since garnered more than 428,000 views on X. His post went on to criticise US support for Ukraine.
Moreover, the $750 would be a loan, claimed another Republican influencer, who shared a video calling on hurricane survivors to refuse the government’s money. His video has garnered more than 1.5 million views on X.
