A Virginia mother and a 27-year-old man have been arrested and charged with felony murder in connection with the death of a 2-year-old child.

On Tuesday, Aug. 13, at around 3 a.m. local time, police and emergency services responded to a call that a child was unresponsive in Petersburg, Va., the Petersburg Bureau of Police said in a statement on Facebook.

The toddler was transported to the hospital where he later died. In a criminal complaint obtained by local outlet WWBT, police said there was blood coming out of the child's nose and mouth when they found him.

Sadia Dewese, 29, and Jaytrez Mason, 27, were arrested and both were charged with felony murder and child neglect, while Mason is also charged with possession of a firearm by a violent felon, according to police.

Dewese and Mason are both being held without bond. It is not immediately clear if either has retained an attorney or entered a plea.
