Vaughan destroys Cook with brutal live TV sledge

Video has emerged of the moment Alastair Cook disrupted a live TV segment, prompting a savage sledge from former skipper Michael Vaughan.

Vaughan was joined by Ashes greats Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist and Graeme Swann in a segment for BT Sport after the third day's play at the WACA on Saturday night, when Cook accidentally walked in front of the camera.

The out-of-form opener realised too late what he'd done, but his appearance didn't go unnoticed by the former players.

"That was Alastair Cook by the way," Vaughan told the live TV audience.

"He's probably on his way to the nets."

Presenter Matt Smith added: “A rueful look back as if to say no I’m not.”

While the dig was presumably in jest, Vaughan was strongly suggesting Cook needs work on his batting.

The former Test captain's highest score in the series is just 37, and he could only manage seven in the first innings at the WACA.

Australia have one hand on the urn after day three of the third Test, with Steve Smith and Mitch Marsh breaking records and England's resolve on Saturday.

Vaughan was highly critical of England's display on a nightnare day for the tourists.

"It is a disastrous day,” Vaughan told BT Sport.

“I think today showed we have no swing, no seam, no pace and no spin.

“England will probably have to bat four and a half sessions to try and save the Test match and keep the Ashes alive.

“It is a pitch that looks pretty good, those cracks will widen, but I do think England will need a bit of help from the Gods above, I really do.”

Australia held a 146-run lead at stumps on day three, having marched to 4-549 thanks to an unbeaten 301-run stand from Smith and Marsh.

England had boasted the upper hand at 4-368 in their first innings but have since spectacularly imploded.

Their trip hit a new low on Saturday, when 346 runs were scored and a single wicket fell.
