Has The Walking Dead's new showrunner Angela Kang basically confirmed that Maggie (Lauren Cohan) won't die? It would seem that way.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about season nine, Kang was asked what the show would look like without certain key characters, including Cohan's Maggie.

"With Lauren, she has said that she would like to come back to the show and we would love to have her back," said Kang.

"We think there's more story with Maggie to tell. We already have some plans brewing that I think are pretty cool."

So it sounds like there aren't plans to kill off the character anytime soon.

This comes after Cohan herself announced in April that she'll be back for season 9, although she didn't confirm whether she'll return as a series regular or as a guest.

"I'm going back," she told Entertainment Weekly. "There's a lot more Maggie story to tell."

Maggie was last seen plotting against Rick in a private meeting with Jesus and Daryl, all of whom agree that Rick was wrong to let Negan live after killing Glenn.

Cohan's previous contract for The Walking Dead ended at the end of season 8, and she had signed up for a new TV pilot following reports that she was unhappy with the salary offers put forward by AMC during negotiations over a new deal.

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on FOX and NOW TV in the UK.
