When Manly rugby winger Addison Hawke picked up the ball in his in-goal and saw a wall of defenders bearing down on him, self-preservation was his major goal. "My first thought was just to get out of the in-goal in one piece," he told Yahoo Sport Australia.

"I didn’t think anything past that." In the next 16 seconds, Hawke not only escaped his in-goal but beat almost the entire Gordon team in a 120m dash to the try-line that has to be seen to be believed.

And he did it without a hand being laid on him. "It was all instinct and adrenaline. Once I got through in the clear I just backed my speed," the pacy 22-year-old said.

"I was pretty happy to score it because the play or two before I bombed a really simple try. The boys were pretty pumped also, but the main thing is we won the game."

Hawke's five-pointer sealed a 33-14 win for the Manly Marlins' third grade side at Chatswood Oval last Saturday – and has become the talk of the wider club rugby community. The club posted Hawke's try on its social media platforms on Monday, with the following warning: "You've got to watch this Marlin like a Hawke."

Wallabies great Tim Horan stunned at Addison Hawke effort

It attracted hundreds of views within an hour of publication. Hawke's coast-to-coast effort is also set to feature on Stan Sport's Clubland show, hosted by Andrew Swain and Wallabies legend Tim Horan.

YSA passed the video onto Horan, who was blown away by what he saw. He said: "That would have to be in the top five solo club tries I've ever seen. There was no way Addo was going to look for support 10m out – it was all his doing."

Swain added: "We've had a couple of 100m-plus tries on the show this year but none as special as this. "It has individual brilliance and genuine jet shoes. The only time I've seen pace like this in Chatswood was Timmy Horan legging it to the local dumpling house before it shut!"

Hawke, who has been clocked at 11 seconds over 100m, knows he will now be a target for rival defenders – if they can get their hands on him.
