WATCH: Crazy massage therapy using knives
This wellness trend gives a whole new meaning to ‘going under the knife’.
The bizarre massage on offer sees adventurous spa enthusiasts have cleavers chopped across their faces and bodies.
And there’s nothing but a thin piece of towel separating their skin from the blade.
Hsiao Mei Fang, the owner of Ancient Art Of Knife Therapy Education Center, located in Taipei, Taiwan, has been performing massages with knives for 13 years.
“Traditional knife therapy is from China and is 2500 years old. But we did research here and have created our own new original knife therapy,” she says.
She says the therapy, which starts with a stick to loosen up the blood vessels and improve circulation, helps to renew energy and relax the body.
“The knife is specially made so it’s very safe, we won’t use a kitchen knife,” she says.

Although many people think it’s just for fun, she says many have said it ‘changed their life’ and gotten their friends to try.
“At first I was scared because we use knives for cutting chicken and pork meat. So I was afraid of being cut like that to. But after realised it was safe and actually quite comfortable,” says a male customer.
Another female customer says it feels like ‘electricity goes through my body’.
And we thought cupping was extreme.
