Climbers, equipped with harnesses and ropes tied to the lookout platform, removed litter from the slopes underneath the monument. Employed by the municipal waste management company, these certified climbers are also responsible for managing waste on Rio’s hillsides.

Their work extends beyond clearing plastic bottles to include removing all potentially flammable materials to mitigate the risk of forest fires.

“These alpinists perform a very hard job" noted Paulo Maurício, an engineer supervising the cleanup, highlighting their role in preserving the area around this world-renowned landmark.
