Weed ambassador Snoop Dogg might be done with the herb: 'I've decided to give up smoke'
Is the kush king really abdicating his throne?
Snoop Dogg may be done with the high life.
The notorious weed smoker shared a cryptic announcement on Thursday that he will officially stop inhaling. While he didn’t clarify whether he was referring to only smoking weed (or smoking anything) or consuming weed in general, Snoop says he came to a joint decision with loved ones to kick the habit.
“After much consideration and conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke,” Snoop wrote in a statement shared on Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter). “Please respect my privacy at this time.”
The post was written atop a photo of him with prayer hands.
A representative for Snoop Dogg did not immediately respond to EW’s request for comment.
The announcement came as a shock to fans of Snoop, a longtime kush enthusiast and ambassador of the herb who once claimed to smoke 81 blunts a day. Stories about smoking with the undisputed King of Weed have become a celebrity staple, with everyone from Ed Sheeran to Russell Crowe recounting fond memories of taking hits with him.
But Snoop recently hinted at the possibility of him cutting back on cannabis. In March, he told the Daily Mail that he was taking steps to dramatically reduce his THC intake.
“Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways,” Snoop said at the time. “The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I’m associated with, because I want to see my grandkids grow old. The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake… I just don’t want to do this to my body anymore. I want to survive.”
Still, after seeing his post, some fans have high hopes that Snoop is just pulling a fast one.
“Today isn’t April Fools day, Snoop,” wrote one user, while another joked, “I am sure his account got hacked.”
Others saluted the rapper on his journey.
