RCMP in western P.E.I. are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Monday afternoon.

At about 2:40 p.m. Prince District RCMP, Alberton Fire Department and EMS responded to a report of a single vehicle accident on Greenmount Road, RCMP said in a news release.

Arriving on the scene, first responders found a minivan had left the road and collided with a power pole.

The driver, an 81-year-old West Prince man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

This is the 10th fatality on Island roads this year.
