Rebel Wilson is one of the most recognisable Aussie faces and names in Hollywood, but you might be surprised to find out that that isn’t her real name. In fact, she was born Melanie Elizabeth Bownds, and changed her name legally in 2002.
The actress revealed to the Daily Telegraph in 2011:' “a girl called Rebel sang at my parent’s wedding and that’s where my name came from.”
In 2017, The Guardian reported Rebel’s mother, Sue Bownds, called her daughter Rebel for the first six weeks of her life, but “bent to the pressure” from family to use a more “suitable name”.
Wilson comes from a family of unique names and is the eldest of her siblings, Liberty, Ryot and Annachi. According to 7News, Annachi’s real full name is Annaleise, but she prefers the nickname.
