Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer (29th)

True crime fans, you know who you are, will no doubt eat up this horrifying account of the so-called Torso Ripper who committed unspeakable crimes in New York between 1967 and 1980. Grim viewing indeed.

Queer Eye S6 (31st)

Hey, the boys are back! The latest season of Queer Eye will no doubt achieve that warm and fuzzy nirvana of camp hilarity, gentle mockery and genuine emotion that we’ve all grown to love over the years. Perfect way to end the ghastly year of 2021.

Cobra Kai S3 (31st)

The show that no one believed would work is here for its fourth season and it looks like a solid continuation of the pitch perfect mixture of pathos and nostalgia that constantly punches (and kicks!) above its weight.

The Lost Daughter (31st)

Feel like having a sook on New Year’s Eve? Netty has ya sorted, with this haunting Olivia Colman flick that looks like it’ll thrill your soul and break your heart. It’s actually directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal and has been receiving rave reviews.

STAN

What Maisie Knew (28th)

This is a drama about the breakup of a marriage, seen through the eyes of the young child. Starring Alexander Skarsgård and Julianne Moore, this is a sensitive, well-observed film that is sure to break your heart just a little.

The Disaster Artist (30th)

It’s the film about the making of the “worst movie of all time” The Room. Starring James Franco as Tommy Wiseau, plus Dave Franco and Seth Rogen, this is a legit hilarious flick that will have you chuckling weirdly and saying, “Hahahah, what a story, Mark!”

Cloverfield (31st)

The found footage genre doesn’t get much love these days, but this 2008 flick is still a pretty great example of it. An alien invasion from the perspective of people just lobbing about in the city is sure to startle all but the most hardy of viewers.

BINGE

Conspiracies Decoded S1 (27th)

For the foil hat wearers among you, Conspiracies Decoded is an in-depth look at some of history’s greatest hidden truths. Or, you know, hidden nonsense. Either way, you’ll want to fill a whiteboard with hastily scrawled notes connected by coloured string after this one.

Call the Midwife: The Casebook (28th)

If you’re a fan of the light-hearted but quality drama series, you’ll also probably like this documentary that explores the true historical basis for many of the stories in the show. Eye-opening and intriguing stuff by Stephen McGann.

Agatha Christie’s England (29th)

Fascinating documentary about the great mystery writer Agatha Christie and how her upbringing in England informed her work, her characters and the great twists for which she became so famous. Christie stans will be all over this one.

Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (1st)

Hard to believe the Harry Potter movies began twenty years ago, and yet that’s what the calendar stubbornly insists upon. This star-studded celebration of the boy wizard’s cinematic adventures is bound to thrill those who love the popular series.

PICK OF THE WEEK

The Book of Boba Fett (29th)

Star Wars nerds rejoice, the iconic Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) is here! Back to reclaim his rightful place in the hierarchy of the underworld, ol’ mate Boba is joined by Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) and ready to put the pew-pew on some wretched hives of scum and villainy.

The Rescue (31st)

Remember that time those poor kids got stuck in a cave in Thailand and were rescued? Well, if not this documentary should refresh your memory of this sensational story that thankfully had a happy ending. Like real life, we suspect Elon Musk will be of zero importance here.
