Why Emilia Clarke Can’t Bring Herself To Watch 'House Of The Dragon'

Now that House of the Dragon is back, fans of the Game of Thrones prequel have once again been thrust into the world of Westeros, but one notable person who won't be tuning in is Emilia Clarke.

The actor, who starred in Game of Thrones as Daenerys Targaryen, recently revealed in a June 2024 interview with People that she 'can't' bring herself to watch House of the Dragon, whose second season has just premiered on HBO.

'I just don’t know what it is. I feel so content and happy with what my experience was, that I think watching the new one would just feel so odd, I think,' she told the outlet. 'I really do fully support the entire thing and everyone who’s made it, and it’s beautiful how successful it’s been. It’s absolutely amazing.'

This isn't the first time the Me Before You actor has shared her conflicted feelings about the Game of Thrones prequel. In 2023, while she insisted she was 'over the moon' to see House of the Dragon doing so well she felt 'too weird' to watch it for herself.

'It’s kind of like someone saying, "You want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? Want to go to that school reunion?" That’s how it feels,' she said, before admitting she was actively 'avoiding it'.

The news comes after it was revealed that the series was renewed for a third season ahead of the second series' premiere on June 16, 2024.
