Why the Queen hasn't visited Prince Philip in hospital

Buckingham Palace has revealed the cause of Prince Philip's hospitalisation, a week after the Duke of Edinburgh was admitted.

"The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII’s Hospital where he is receiving medical attention for an infection," the palace said in a statement shared with HuffPost. "He is comfortable and responding to treatment but is not expected to leave hospital for several days."

Sources close to the palace had previously shared Philip's illness was not Covid related with both the Prince and the Queen receiving their first vaccines in January.

With Prince Philip spending a week in hospital already, it's left many people wondering whether the Queen will visit her husband.

Prince Charles has been the only member of the royal family to visit his 99-year-old father since he was taken to hospital as a "precautionary measure" last week after "feeling unwell".

Prince William has since told journalists, "Yes, he’s OK, they’re keeping an eye on him," with a wink while he visited a vaccination centre in eastern England.

Prince Edward also told Sky News his father is "a lot better".

"He’s looking forward to getting out, which is the most positive thing, so we keep our fingers crossed," the Earl of Wessex said.

When asked if his father was frustrated in the hospital, Edward laughed and said "just a bit."

"I think that gets to all of us, and then, you can only watch the clock so many times and the walls are only so interesting," he said.

"We’ve had some brilliant and lovely messages from all sorts of people, and we really appreciate that and so does he," the earl added. "I’ve been passing them on. It’s fantastic, thank you."

When the Duke was first admitted to the hospital, the Palace said he was expected to stay there "for a few days of observation and rest".

The Queen, meanwhile, has been isolating at Windsor Castle with Buckingham Palace not sharing whether Her Majesty will make the 41km journey to visit her husband.

Due to the pandemic, visitors are being kept to a minimum so as not to spread Covid to already sick patients.

The hospital has said visitors would only be allowed in "exceptional circumstances" which has royal fans concerned that if the Queen did visit Philip, it could mean his health has taken a turn for the worse.

According to The Sun, Prince Harry has spoken to the Queen from the US about his grandfather's health with some reports suggesting he is quarantining in case he should need to fly back to the UK on short notice.

Harry is reportedly being "regularly informed" of Philip's health, The Mirror reports.

The Duke was last hospitalised in December 2019, spending four nights in hospital before Christmas.
