The so-called "Wolf of Wall Street" has been linked to a company providing taxpayer-funded training in Brisbane.

Seven News can reveal convicted fraudster Jordan Belfort has links to construction industry training company Face to Face which is now under investigation by the skills training industry-governing body.

Belfort claims to be working as a consultant for the company and refuted any deeper involvement with the organisation.

"I am not in management I am a consultant," said the man who was convicted in 2004 of defrauding 1,500 clients of more than $200 million throughout the 1980s and '90s.

He still owes the US government about $100 million for his sins, but he's since taken up work in Queensland with the training company subsidized by tens of millions of taxpayer dollars.

Face to Face spokesman Paul Conquest confirmed Belfort's statement, telling 7 News the former broker was not part of the company.

"We pay Jordan obviously, we pay Jordan directly his consultancy fees and mate, what he is here to do is help develop more resources to train people how to train other companies … how to sell," Conquest said.

Hiring Belfort as a consultant allows Face to Face to keep him out of the company structure.

7 News can reveal in light of our seven-month investigation and multiple complaints to the industry and funding regulators, Face to Face Training is now at the centre of an Australian Skills Quality Authority probe.

This week the company's tax payer funding was suspended and in some cases terminated amid concerns over the quality of its training.
