Wolverhampton shooting: Woman, 18, found with gunshot injuries

An 18-year-old woman has allegedly been shot with a sawn-off shotgun in broad daylight in Wolverhampton. 

The teenager was shot in the chest on Hughes Avenue just after 4.15pm on Saturday. 

An update from the West Midlands Police revealed the 18-year-old remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital after she was shot.

Neighbours have been shaken by the incident with one who lives on Hughes Avenue saying: “The police found the gun in some bushes and that's where our children play”

The resident, who did not want to be named, added: “It's disgusting because if the police hadn't found it and our kids went and played in that part, what on earth would have happened?

"I don't even want to think about it. It's horrible what's happened especially if she's young."

Another woman who has two daughters said: "I feel very scared after what's happened.

"It's just scary that it was so close to us. I have two daughters as well which makes it even more nerve-wracking as we live on the same street.

"I'm shocked by what's happened and just hope the young girl is okay."

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We're investigating after a woman was found with gunshot injuries in Hughes Avenue, Wolverhampton, just after 4.15pm yesterday (3 April).

"The 18-year-old was taken to hospital with chest injuries and remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

"A gun was recovered nearby and we're carrying out further enquiries to establish whether it's connected.
