An elderly Ohio woman has been arrested after allegedly shooting a man to death because of something said during “harmless banter” between the two, local police say, according to several news outlets.

Arthur Osborne, 58, died after being shot on Sunday, Oct. 20, at a Cincinnati, Ohio, apartment, Cincinnati Police confirm to PEOPLE.

Citing investigators and court documents, WKRC, WLWT and the Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Osborne was shot in the pelvic area.

Authorities arrested Kathleen Geiger, 77, in connection with the killing, Cincinnati police told PEOPLE in their statement.

An affidavit cited by WLWT, WCPO and FOX 19 alleges Geiger told police that she and Osborne had been “engaged in harmless banter” when the incident took place.

That's when Osborne “jokingly” asked Geiger to shoot him, Geiger allegedly told police, per the affidavit.

She allegedly said she believed the firearm was not loaded and shot him in his pelvic region, per the affidavit, WLWT, WCPO and the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Per court documents and authorities cited by WLWT and WKRC, respectively, Geiger allegedly shot Osborne in the groin. Cincinnati police did not comment further to PEOPLE.

Police say Geiger rendered medical aid to Osborne and called 911, per WKRC, FOX 19 and the Cincinnati Enquirer.
