Woman gave birth to secret baby and 'buried it in the backyard'
A woman has been arrested accused of murdering her newborn son before allegedly burying him in the backyard.
Alvory Chavez Ramos, 23, from Cook County, in the US state of Illinois, has been charged with first-degree murder.
Police said sometime between October 31, 2020, and November 30, 2020, Ramos gave birth to a baby boy in the bathtub of her family home.
“When the baby began to cry, Chavez Ramos allegedly placed her hand over the child’s nose and mouth to prevent family members in the home from discovering the baby,” police said.
“After the child stopped moving, Chavez Ramos allegedly placed him in a plastic bag and buried him in the backyard of the family residence.”
Police found the boy’s remains on May 31 and determined he died by asphyxiation.
“DNA testing confirmed Chavez Ramos was the biological mother of the victim, and she was arrested Saturday night,” police said.
Police claim Chavez Ramos told them “she tried to conceal her pregnancy from her family because she did not want them to be angry with her”.
Chavez Ramos appeared in court for a bond hearing on Monday. She is being held on a bond of $126,000.
It is not clear when she will face court again.
