Woman gives birth after pothole causes her waters to break

A mother has thanked the two first responders who assisted when she gave birth on the drive to hospital after a pothole caused her waters to break.

Aimee Young started experiencing contractions at home on the morning of November 10, so she headed to hospital with her aunty behind the wheel, accompanied by her mother.

“I was in labour and I thought I could make it to the hospital,” the 25-year-old said.

“The contractions then started coming, harder and stronger – but my waters had not broken. It broke after we hit a pothole.”

The now mother of two, from Forfar in Angus, Scotland, said her aunty who was driving the car took a detour into a country road where the family was able to pull over.

“I was there for what I felt like forever for me – the baby, at this point, was crowning.”

An emergency call was then made and her aunty Trisha Law went to the road to flag down the first responders.

The crew soon arrived and brought Ms Young into the ambulance where she gave birth to baby Peter at 9.32am, weighing 3.7kg.

“I did not get a chance to thank them – it was over quite quickly, and after the birth, we just went to the hospital,” she said.

“I just want to say thanks for getting to me and finding me in a silly place.”=

Back in May, a Melbourne grandmother helped her daughter give birth on the footpath outside her home, in the dark, when the baby couldn’t wait to get to the hospital.
